Local Ambassador Aspires to Help Others

Well-known around the city for his bright orange polo and ‘Ask Me!’ button, Phoenix ambassador J.D. Cavazos wants to help people in every aspect available to him.

Cavazos, a public administration’s major at Arizona State University, works full time at the Downtown Phoenix information location to help members of the Phoenix community with any questions, concerns, or help they need.

“It is most important to have a community feel. I love helping people; it’s a way to have a good life,” said Cavazos. The Phoenix native also spends time studying, watching movies, and hanging out with friends. While on the job, though, he tries to incorporate his love of the city into his ambassador responsibilities.

“If I wasn’t doing this I would probably be in retail or flipping burgers,” said Cavazos. For now, he couldn’t see himself doing anything else, and feels “very blessed” to have the career he does.

However, the young ambassador wants to pursue a law degree after he finishes his undergrad.

“I want to help people in any way that I can,” said Cavazos.

Working to achieve this goal now, his job allows him to talk to hundreds of people a day. At the end of the day, though, Cavazos feels his coworkers are the people who have left the biggest impact on him. Together, they create the entire staff of orange shirts.

“We’re a small company, but we branch out pretty far,” said Cavazos. In his pursuit to do all he can for the Phoenix community, Cavazos is building many relationships, and continuing to live by what he believes in.

“What you give is what you get. [Helping people] Makes everyone’s lives better,” said Cavazos.
