The streets of downtown Phoenix are filled with events and activites created to help “bring the community together.”
Downtown Phoenix Partnership, a community information center, located on 1st Avenue, provides a weekly guide and additional information on what is going on in the Phoenix area.Referred to as “the Urban Heart of Arizona” the Downtown Phoenix Partnership works as a informational tool to find out what is happening in the city.
“There are a lot of great things happening downtown,” Samantha Jackson, the Community Services Director of the Downtown Phoenix Partnership, said. “We pull all the different events that are going on, the museums, all the sporting events, live music, and more.” Activities covered by the partnership are sponsored by different organizations. The partnership itself also funds many other events.
Stakeholders report back to the partnership as to what is going on but a lot of promoted events and information are found online.“There’s always a wide array of things to do downtown,” Jackson said. “Lots of great stuff during the summer to keep people busy.”
The circus is just one major event coming up in the next few weeks.“They bring out the elephants on Jefferson and Jackson street right before the circus starts so you can come see the elephants live, up close, and personal,” Jackson said.
Music events are also very popular in the summer. “The Ceresin Ballroom always has really great live music,” Jackson said. “Because of the small space, it’s such a fun time to watch the concerts there.”The Diamondbacks are also currently in season, and the Mercury just started their season. Many museums also provide activity opportunities.”
